Lassalyckan and  Ulricehamn Ski Center

Ulricehamn Ski Center

• Ski Terrain: 2.6 km (Downhill, over multiple trails)
• Distance from Gothenburg: 100 km or  ~ 1 hour 15 mins by car

Lassalyckan

Lassalyckan and Ulricehamn Ski Center offer some of the best Gothenburg skiing. 

Downhill and alpine skiers will want to head to Ulricehamn Ski Center. Here you’ll find seven ski slopes and a terrain park equipped with jumps, rails, and boxes. 

This small ski hill is popular with young families and there’s a lift that’s reserved just for younger skiers too!  It’s also known for having the best ski school in West Sweden, it’s an ideal place to learn or hone your skiing skills. 

Lassalyckan is just to the southwest of Ulricehamn and is a welcoming cross-country ski resort near Gothenburg that’s perfect for beginners and young families as well as those looking to get in a workout by doing laps of the arena.

This is one of those Swedish ski areas that’s steeped in skiing heritage and was an official center for the Vasaloppet ski marathon and a venue for the Cross-Country World Cup!  The artificial snow trail stretches up to 11.5 km, with 8.3 km equipped with electric lighting. There are also three trails for natural snow measuring 5, 10 and 15 km. These are usable in good winter conditions

Its state-of-the-art artificial snow system extends the skiing season, ensuring consistent snow coverage and its illuminated tracks make for a cool skiing holiday evening experience.

Isaberg Mountain Resort

• Ski Terrain: 10 slopes (longest slope 1,000 m)
• Distance from Gothenburg: 125 km, ~ 1.5 hours by car

Isaberg Ski Resort in Småland is the largest ski resort in southern Sweden region and is widely considered to be one of the best ski resorts near Gothenburg Sweden.

It has 11 groomed slopes for all skill levels, from gentle, child-friendly runs to the more challenging black run for experienced or daring skiers. 

Even in lower snow years, the resort’s advanced snowmaking system ensures good snow conditions throughout the season for those looking to ski near Gothenburg.

Besides some of the best skiing near Gothenburg, you can enjoy a unique 1 km long tobogganing track and there are plenty of facilities and services including restaurants, BBQ and picnic areas, warming huts, and ski lessons.

Alebacken

• Ski Terrain: 3 slopes (longest slope 450 m)
• Distance from Gothenburg: 15 minutes north of the city

Alebacken in Ale is the closest area for skiing near Gothenburg (unless there’s been a lot of snow in the city!). It’s ideal for an after-work trip, or a half-day trip over the weekend.

Alebacken has three slopes: a child-friendly slope, a red (intermediate), and a blue (easy) slope, so it’s best for beginners or those just desperate to get out on their skis!

Despite its smaller size, Alebacken is well-equipped with three ski lifts and snowguns for all slopes, ensuring consistent skiing conditions. The resort also features a café and a ski equipment rental shop, making it a convenient choice for a short, enjoyable skiing outing.

Falköping Alpin

• Ski Terrain: Approximately 25 km of tracks for cross-country; four slopes for downhill
• Distance from Gothenburg: 90 minutes

Falköping is a great place for skiing near Gothenburg, especially for families with young children.

The Mösseberg ski center, Falköping Alpin, is renowned for being one of West Sweden’s most snow-reliable resorts. Whether your preference lies in downhill skiing or exploring cross-country trails, this resort has something for everyone. The slopes are suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to more experienced skiers, and are well-lit for those who enjoy night skiing.

For cross-country enthusiasts, Falköping offers around 25 kilometers of diverse trails, ranging from easy to more challenging terrains. Among these, a 2-kilometer track is equipped with artificial snow, guaranteeing good skiing conditions.

There are also places to relax and recharge after skiing. Café Snöflingan is a cozy spot to warm up in and refuel and there’s also a spa as well as the cheese-lovers paradise, Falbygdens Osteria, where you can indulge in a cheese buffet!

Mullsjö

• Ski Terrain: 4 km of slopes
• Distance from Gothenburg: About 1.5 hours

Mullsjö in Jönköping County, is another excellent skiing location within easy reach of Gothenburg. Known for its beautiful views across Småland and beyond, Mullsjö Alpin offers a great skiing experience for both novices and experienced skiers.

The resort is relatively compact but packs a punch with its diverse range of slopes and facilities. It features seven slopes and five lifts, including a special sledding slope, which adds an additional fun winter activity. For those who love a challenge, Mullsjö’s black runs are reputed to test even the best skiers!

To make your ski trip from Gothenburg even better, Mullsjö Alpin provides additional amenities like a restaurant and café, where you can take a break and enjoy some warm food or drinks.

Billingebacken in Skövde

• Ski Terrain: 400-meter long slope, 40 km of cross-country trails
• Distance from Gothenburg: Approximately 160 kilometers
• Getting There: By car, Skövde is less than two hours from Gothenburg, making it an accessible option for a ski trip. This proximity allows for a convenient journey to a skiing destination that offers both variety and quality.

Billingen in Skövde offers both downhill skiing and cross-country trails. 

Billingen is just under a two-hour drive from Gothenburg, making it a convenient destination for a winter getaway and even possible to do as a day trip from Gothenburg in winter.

The main attraction at Billingen is the 400-meter-long ski slope known as Billingebacken. There’s also a ski park complete with rails and jumps if you know a skier or boarder who’s more into tricks.

When it comes to cross country, there are over 40 kilometers of groomed trails, including a 4-kilometer section with artificial lighting and snow, providing reliable skiing conditions throughout the season. The quality of these trails is so high that Billingen serves as an official training center for the Vasaloppet ski marathon!

Beyond skiing, you’ll find other winter activities at Billingen like an outdoor ice rink for ice-skating and hockey or toboggan slopes. After a day full of activities, you can either opt for a barbeque in one of the shelters or enjoy a delightful dinner at Restaurant Billingehus.

The Gothenburg Ski Dome is a great place to go to if there isn’t much snow depth on the ground yet but you still want to go skiing.

This is primarily for cross-country skiing and features a 1.2 km long track. There are three trails around to track for classic skiing and one for skate.
